I hear way too many people say that they never wash their makeup brushes. Cue me gagging. It is way too important for anyones health to never wash the brushes that touch their face on the daily. When you leave them dirty and never tend to them, the bacteria and product on them build up, leaving you with less effective tools to work with, and also, some not so healthy bacteria to have near your eyes, nose, and mouth.
I clean my brushes weekly on Sunday mornings, but I think that once every two weeks is pretty realistic for most people. When I began to wash my brushes, I soaked them in a glass of water, dish soap, a little vinegar and a tiny bit of olive oil. Since then, my game has really stepped up, and now I use the Ecotools Makeup Brush Shampoo along with my brushegg. Both of those items really won't break $6 for you on Amazon, and I think that they are an awesome little investment that really pay off.
I bundle up all the brushes that need cleaning in a little cup, and take them all the bathroom sink, along with a microfiber towel to place them on once they are clean. I wash my brushes in luke-warm water, by applying a tiny amount of the cleanser onto my brush egg, and swirling the bristles on the ridges, and watch all the product dissolve off the brush. Not, going to lie, this is pretty satisfying. I continue with this until all the product is visibly out of the bristles, then rinse and swirl the brush until there is no more soap suds visible. This doesn't take too long, and I can usually get all my brushes washed in about 20 minutes or so.
Once they're all clean, I bundle them up, and spread them all on my desk to dry overnight. Some of them take a little longer than the others, and once they are totally dry, I fluff them back up a little. There's nothing better than using fresh, clean, and soft brushes!
